THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

BLESSED ARE YOU, LORD OUR GOD,

WHO HAS FILLED CREATION

WITH LIGHT AND SPLENDOR.

Rise up in splendor, my people! Your light has come,
the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth,
and thick clouds cover the peoples;
but upon you the Lord shines,
and over you appears God’s glory.
You shall be radiant at what you see,
your heart shall throb and overflow,

for riches of the sea shall be emptied
out before you.
Caravans of camels shall fill you,
dromedaries from Midian and Ephah;
all from Sheba shall come
bearing gold and frankincense,
and proclaiming the praises of

the Lord of Light.
Isaiah 60:1-6/20

Radiant Lord,
We rejoice with hearts filled with gratitude
that You are not a hidden God
for You reveal Yourself daily
through the mystery of light.
Your majesty and glory
shine out from within all of creation,
as well as from sun, moon and stars.
We walk by their light,
and we also feed upon that light
as it is transformed daily into our food.

Blessed are You, Illuminator of All Creation,
for the gifts of sunrise, high noon
and sunset.
In the splendor of the sun,
the sky-wheel of energy and light,
we see Your splendor, O Light of Lights.

Your Son, Jesus, called Himself
the light of the world
and invited us to be His luminous
brothers and sisters
and Your children of light.

We are grateful for the daily light of insight,
that gift by which we see our way to You.
We are also grateful for shadows and nightfall
which serve as background for this light.
In our lives, we often stand
in the darkness of failings and suffering.
May Your Divine Light
penetrate the murky overcast of these times,
and radiate outward from the horizon of our
hearts.
May Your Divine Presence
be a shining star in the midst of gloom.

Like the plants of the earth,
may we lean toward You,
Eternal Source of All Light and Energy.
Help us, this day,
To be light to all we meet.

Blessed are You, Lord our God,
who has filled creation with light and
splendor.
Amen.

A CHRISTMAS THANKS
Our parish priests and parish staff thank all of you who were so thoughtful and generous during the Christmas season.  We are thankful for your presence and your prayers.  We are grateful for the cards, gifts, greetings and goodies that made this season of Christ’s coming such a beautiful experience for all of us.

BLESS YOUR HOME ON EPIPHANY

bless-this-home
The blessing of homes on the Feast of the Epiphany brings the presence of Christ into our lives.  The origin of this ritual comes from Europe when homeowners marked their doors with the sign 20+C+M+B=(year).  CMB were the initials of the three Wise Men:
Caspar, Melchoir and Balthasar.

Another interpretation given of this sign was:  Christus Mansionem Bededicat (Christ Blesses this Mansion).  We welcome you to bless your home for the New Year using the blessed chalk and rite given below:
One person makes the inscription with chalk above the door (20+C+M+B+18), while another proclaims the corresponding words:  The three Wise Men, Caspar, Melchoir, and Balthasar followed the star of God’s son who became Man (20) two thousand years ago.  (+) May Christ bless our dwelling (+) and remain with us throughout the New Year.

Prayer:  Almighty Father, incline your ear.  Bless us and all those who gather here.  Send us your angel who will defend us and fill with Grace all who dwell in this place.  Amen

The Fifth grade science students are studying the systems of the body and created life size “digestion people” to demonstrate their knowledge. The Fourth grade science class created “inventamals.” The students created an animal with a specific adaptation that would enable the animal to survive in the environment.   All grades are preparing for Catholic Schools Week scheduled at the end of the month…stay tuned!
