Passion, possibility and presence

It is not the answers that show us the way but the questions.
Rainer Maria Rilke

“A sower went out to sow seed …
some fell on rich soil and provided fruit …
whoever has ears, hears.”
Matthew 13

Questions?

As a child, I asked somewhat endlessly: “Why?” “How long?” “Where?” “What?” Now, I find myself, along with you, asking new questions especially around the future of religious life.

My questions focus on: passion, possibility, and presence. Do I live my life passionately? Responding to God’s call, I was filled with excitement, eagerness, passion – passion conquering fear of the unknown, carrying me across the threshold. Throughout my journey this passion has sometimes waned and also had moments of deepening.  Where is my passion now? Could our passion guide us into the future?

Possibilities call me to reflect on Jesus’ experiences of living possibilities and how all life changed forever because of it. What would life be like if I lived in possibility?

How do I experience God’s presence and what is my response? Living God’s presence in the questions, we will know the way.  Jesus promised that beyond the metaphors, God will tell us in plain words.
