Christ Be Our Light: Week VII

Follow our Lenten theme and review past reflections on our website www.stphilip.org

Palm Sunday 2019
Holy Week: Christ, Be Our Light!

Our Holy Week is a journey from light to darkness to an everlasting light. During Lent we have examined and prayed with the shaded areas of our lives by inviting Christ to shine in the darkness in colorful and diverse ways. The following reflections, inspired by our Theme Hymn, are a helpful guide for each day of Holy Week culminating in the light of Easter.

Reflection Instructions:
1. Read or sing while praying with the hymn verse.

2. Discuss these questions and their answers with God in prayer.

a. What meaning do you wish these words to mean in my life?

b. What healing, strengthening or loving light do you wish to shine into my life?

c. How may I be your healing, strengthening or loving light today for others?

3. Conclude by reciting or singing the theme refrain as a prayer of praise.

Christ, Be Our Light!
(Bernadette Farrell adapted)
Christ, be our light!
Shine in our hearts. Shine in the darkness.
We shine your love,
Placing our hope and trust in you.
Palm Sunday:
Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
Light for the world to see.

Holy Monday:
Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has pow’r to save us.
Make us your living voice.

Holy Tuesday:
Longing for food, many are hungry.
Longing for water, many still thirst.
Make us your bread, broken for others,
Shared until all are fed.

Holy Wednesday:
Longing for shelter, many are homeless.
Longing for warmth, many are cold.
Make us your building, sheltering others,
Walls made of living stone.

Holy Thursday:
Many the gifts, many the people,
Many the hearts that yearn to belong.
Let us be servants to one another,
Making your kingdom come.

Good Friday:
This is the day Christ our Redeemer,
Entered our suffering with a free heart.
All of our pain, taken upon Him,
Light in our darkness shines.

Holy Saturday:
Sing of the hope deeper than dying,
Sing of the power stronger than death.
Sing of the love endless as heaven,
Dawning throughout the earth.

Easter Sunday:
Into this world morning is breaking,
All of God’s people lift up your voice.
Cry out with joy, tell out the story,
All of the earth rejoice!
