Blessing Prayer
Restoration Phase I
April 15, 2018

Creator God, we gather this day to give you thanks and praise for your Provident care that gives us courage in every situation. In the beginning of time, you formed the universe and our world to mirror your beauty in the diversity of all creation. You created us in your image and likeness to know you, to love you and to serve you as faithful stewards. You gift us with time, talent and the desire to serve you by being love in action for one another.

75 years ago, you graced this place on earth to be Holy ground, the Parish of Saint Philip the Apostle. Some years later our parish church burned and was rebuilt through the efforts of the people of God who fulfilled your desire for a place of worship and education to stand on the spot. A few months ago, fire damaged our School and Molloy buildings. We your people rallied once again to restore and to rebuild so that your work can continue here.

We ask your continued blessing on all those who worked so diligently to complete the first Phase of our Restoration. As our St. Philip the Apostle Preparatory School students and all the various ministries and organizations prepare to return to this building, we ask for wisdom, strength and for a smooth transition.

We ask your blessing upon these doors, may the doors of our minds and hearts be open to you. We ask your blessing on these windows, may your light and love radiate through every word spoken and in each deed performed. We ask your blessing upon every room, may we create a warm, inviting and healing home for everyone who occupies this place. May your beauty be seen and heard and felt, may your truth be proclaimed and your goodness experienced within these walls and under this roof.
Today, on this Holy ground we hear your Word, receive your Sacraments and rejoice in the spiritual, social and service ministries. With your grace we live our mission of Opus Christi, Christ’s Work.

In this our 75th Jubilee Year we are rejoicing in you, O Lord with thankful hearts as…
We Remember – gratefully our past companions on the Journey whose sacrifice inspires us.
We Celebrate – the good news of love in action that empowers spiritual, service and social ministry.
We Believe – in God’s providence as faithful stewards who continue Christ’s work using the Keys to the Kingdom.

We pray with confidence in your grace that grants us serenity in the presence of the Holy Spirit and through our Risen Lord this Easter Season and always, for ever and ever. Amen.

Restoration Update: Phase I – The Return

The restoration process of our School, Molloy Center and Marion Hall, due to the fire of January 11, 2018 continues. Good News! Phase I, The Return, will commence with the reopening of our school at our Saint Philip the Apostle campus on Monday, April 16, 2018. Our date of return is earlier than the 90-day target first estimated. We had hoped and worked toward completing the restoration, repairs and all the necessary inspections before Easter. Our preferred plan was to move the desks and equipment currently being used by our school children now being educated at the John Paul II Center and at St. Mary Help of Christians Academy in North Haledon, back to our building over the Easter vacation. However, this became undoable and another opportunity for praying for, “The Serenity, to accept the things we cannot change.” All inspections are passed, this is good news.

Invitation to Blessing Ceremony

On Sunday, April 15, the school will host an open house after the 8 AM and 10 AM Masses. Directly following the 10 AM Mass, we will joyfully Bless our restored school building at a ceremony in the school Auditorium. All are welcome to join us in this celebration. After the blessing, the schoolwill be closed to prepare for New Registration for the2018–2019 Academic year at 2:30 PM.

Phase II

The Molloy Center is still in process because it sustained the greatest amount of smoke damage. At this writing, there is no projected return date.

Phase III

The Kaleidoscope wing of the school, which was the epicenter of the fire, was deemed unsalvageable by the insurance company and was demolished. Marion Hall shared a wall and a roof with the Kaleidoscope wing and therefore, cannot be used until a new building is constructed on the site. We are currently in the planning stage to rebuild the Kaleidoscope wing and to restore Marion Hall for use.

Please Help

Your prayer and support through these months is deeply appreciated. Please help by continuing your prayer for:
• patience in dealing with the relocation of our spiritual, service and social ministries to off campus sites.
• all those involved in the restoration process, that God will continue to Bless them for their dedication and diligence.
• a speedy return for the use of our entire facility as we continue to do our mission which is Christ’s Work of love in action.

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Multi-language Liturgy
Acts of the Apostles (2:4) reports that on the feast of Pentecost all were “filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.” The multiple languages at Pentecost demonstrate God’s desire to be in relation with all people. God speaks to each heart in a unique way. Our celebration of Pentecost will be a multi-language liturgy serving as a symbol of God’s ongoing action to renew the face of the earth.
Volunteers are being sought to proclaim the Scripture readings and general intercessions in their native language. Please contact Donna Scancarella at 973-779-6200 or dscancarella@stphilip.org for more information and to volunteer.

A prayer service of Thanksgiving was held on April 11th at Mary Help of Christians Academy in gratitude for their making a home for our 6, 7, & 8 grades. Fr. Joe and Principal Zito and the students offered prayers for the principal, teachers and students of Mary Help of Christians Academy.
