The entrance doorway to St. Philip the Apostle church.

Over the years, through our prayer, practice and good works, our beloved church has suffered some deep-set wear and tear. Our pews are chipping, our carpet has pulls, stains and cuts, and the placement of our various structures is no longer optimal for the needs of our worship space.

Because this is our house of worship, our home, it is time to make some restorations to the inner workings of this sacred space, to protect and preserve the parts that have stood the test of time, and to renew the pieces that may have been displaced. We are called, as stewards of this great faith community, to pool our resources now in dedication to the foundations of our past and to honor our place at the banquet of the Lord now and for future generations.

“Church architecture describes visually the idea of the sacred, which is a fundamental need of man.” – Mario Botta, architect

Our goals for this restoration are the following:

  • Refinish pews – the finish is chipping and many of the hymnal book racks are broken
  • Restore the fullness of the church by adding back the front section of pews
  • Refurbish and reupholster kneelers, which are worn thin from use
  • Replace worn, stained and damaged carpet in sanctuary for a brighter, more symbolic stairway to the altar table, the centerpiece of our mass celebration
  • Replace the Blessed Sacrament’s Altar of Repose to match the central Altar of Sacrifice
  • Reupholster the presider’s, deacons’ and altar servers’ chairs
  • Move the existing baptismal font to a greater place of welcome at the entrance of the church
  • Renovate the small restroom in the vestibule
