MUDD, Rose (nee Pollak) passed away on September 5, 2014. Rose was a Nutrition Site Manager for the Passaic County Office on Aging for 25 years. She was an active member of the Rosary Society, Prime Timers and Cancer Sewing Group. Rose was a member of the Clifton Senior Leisure Club and was trip coordinator for Clifton Community Services.
FIORI, Mary (nee Toth), of Clifton, passed away on August 26, 2014. Born in Passaic, Mary lived in Clifton for most of her life. Before her retirement, she had been employed by Clifton Board of Education for 34 years. Mary will always be remembered for her faithfulness, generosity and ever-present smile.
HUGHES, John J. “Jack” Hughes, Sr., 89, passed away on August 22, 2014. Prior to retiring, Jack was a Supervisor at the Div of Motor Vehicles. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was an usher, and was member of the Knights of Columbus and PrimeTimers. He is the husband of Jane Hughes.
KELLY, Patricia “Trish”, 55, of Hasbrouck Heights, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Trish worked as a hostess and manager at various establishments and at one time did design landscaping. She could light up a room with her smile and engaging personality and had a very generous and loving heart. Trish is the beloved sister of Mary Kelly.
SKALSKI, Catherine Regina (Kay) (nee Bruno), 96, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2014. Kay lived in Clifton before moving to Mantoloking in 2010. She had been employed as a Supervisor at Singer-Kearfott in Woodland Park until retirement, after which she enjoyed travelling the world with her husband. Kay was a Rosarian, a member of the PrimeTimers and was also past-president of the Clifton Chapter of the Deborah Foundation.
ALLEN, Mary Ann, 85, of Clifton, passed away on April 2, 2014. Born in Passaic, Mrs. Allen resided in Clifton for most of her life. She was trained at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) and worked as a private duty nurse. Mrs. Allen was also employed at the Shulton Co. in Clifton until her retirement. Mary Ann is the beloved mother of Sheryl Ann and grandmother of Yvonne Marie and TianaMarie.
TUFANO, Josephine (Cilli), 93, passed away on January 6, 2014. She was born in Philipsburg, NJ and moved to Clifton 37 years ago. She was a dedicated homemaker and devoted to her Catholic faith. She loved ballroom dancing and floral arranging and was well-known for her cooking.
COLBY, Katherine (Wagner), passed away on December 21, 2013. Born in Newark, Kay moved to Clifton in 1950 and lived there before moving to Harrisburg, PA four years ago. Kay was a member of the Prime Timers and served as president of St. Philip’s Rosary Society for several terms. She will be greatly missed.
SHANNON, Margaret M. (McNeilly), 86, passed away on September 28, 2013. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mrs. Shannon moved to Clifton in 1955. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Shannon was employed as a secretary at Montclair State College, the Diocese of Paterson Dept. of Special Education, Paul VI High School in Clifton and St. Philip the Apostle School in Clifton.
BATTISTI, Michael, 67, passed away on September 28, 2013. Michael was employed as a Police Officer with the Wanaque Reservoir Police Department. Michael served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Monticello. He was the beloved son of Gina Battisti.
WALKER, Marion (Kriso), 81, passed away on July 16, 2013. Born in Paterson, she was raised in Wallington and had been a resident of Clifton for over 50 years. Before her retirement, she was employed with Midlantic Bank and Shulton Corp., both in Clifton. Marion was a member of the Rosary Society and the Prime Timers.
DE LORENZO, Shirley A. (Mooradian), 76, passed away on May 31, 2013. Born in Troy NY, she lived in Clifton for most of her adult life. Prior to retiring, she had been employed as a secretary at Passaic County Community. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and permanent deacon, Greg DeLorenzo.
ORSON, Eleanor, passed away on March 14, 2013. Born and raised in Belleville, she moved to Clifton in 1949. Eleanor and her husband were among the original St. Philip’s families who helped to establish the parish. Eleanor was a talented artist and enjoyed volunteering her time. Eleanor served as president of the Rosary Society.
PENNELLA, Ralph, passed away on February 20, 2013. Mr. Pennella was born in East Orange and lived in Clifton since 1957. He was part owner of Samuel Pennella & Sons Co. and worked with his father for 50 years. He rebuilt steam condensers for various power plants throughout the Northeast. He is the beloved father of Addy Pennella and Elaine Gleason.
HOPPER, Maureen (Wilson), died on October 5, 2012. Maureen lived in Clifton but moved to Basking Ridge where she raised her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and watching her favorite shows. She leaves behind her husband and children. She is the beloved daughter of Mary Wilson
SMITH, Sr. Marian Jose, a Sister of Charity, died on October 2, 2012. Sr. Marian Jose entered the Sisters of Charity in 1945 where she was a member for 67 years. From 1988 to 2012, Sr. Marian Jose led the Sr. Miriam Teresa League of Prayer and was responsible for continuing to move forward her Cause for Canonization.
CAPACCIO, Mildred (nee Manisera) died on July 22, 2012. Born and raised in Lyndhurst, Mildred had lived in Clifton since 1953. She was a member of the Rosary Society. Mildred devoted her life to her family and her Catholic faith, especially the Divine Mercy and our Most Blessed Mother.
KLINGLER, Helen C. (nee Lehmkuhl), 84, died April 13, 2012. A gradua te of N.J. State Teachers College at Newark (Kean University), she taught in the Bloomfield school system for 25 years before retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Philip’s Prime Timers and Rosary Society.
HARLEY, Mary Jane (Riley), 84, died on March 26, 2012. She was a Data Processor with ADP for 30 years retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Clare’s Church and a volunteer at Little Sisters of the Poor in Totowa. She was the mother-in-law of Debbie Harley.
WELSH, Elizabeth (nee Durgett) died on February 29, 2012. Betty, a retired registered nurse, enjoyed her career at St. Josephs Hospital, Paterson. She married Edward Welsh and became the devoted mother to 5 children. Betty dearly loved the Rosary Society.

CORTESE, Joseph, 91, passed away on February 13, 2012. Born in Paterson, Mr. Cortese lived there before moving to Woodland Park 48 years ago. He was a self-employed tile contractor in the North Jersey area prior to retiring. He is the beloved husband of Antoinette Cortese.
MERRITT, Josephine, passed away on February 20, 2012 at the age of 94. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Josephine was a member of the Rosary Society.
ANTHONY, Fred, 90, died on January 13, 2012. Born in Elizabeth, he served in the US Navy during World War II. Mr. Anthony was an usher, a past president of the Holy Name Society, a CCD teacher and performed many long hours of volunteer work for St. Philip’s. He is the beloved husband of Dot Anthony and father of Francesca Anthony.
MARSCHALK, Irene, 91, passed away on December 21, 2011. Born in Passaic, Mrs. Marschalk resided in Clifton for most of her life while spending her summers in Manasquan, NJ. She was a dental assistant for many years until her retirement. Irene was a member of the Prime Timers and the Rosary Society.
SANICKI, Barbara, died on November 14, 2011. She lived in Clifton with husband Emil of 66 years, who preceded her in death by 11 days. She was an active member of St. Philips parish in Clifton as a Prime Timer, Rosary Society, and a drama director of the CYO.
QUINN, Frances C. (nee McHugh) formerly of Paterson and Vernon, passed away on November 5, 2011. Born and raised in Ballindine, County Mayo, Ireland, Mrs. Quinn came to the United States at age eighteen. She lived in Paterson for many years and was a parishioner and Rosarian of St. George Church in Paterson and is the beloved grandmother of Fr. Brian Quinn.
MCPHEE, Madeline (nee Jesensky), 92, on October 21, 2011. Born and raised in Punxsutawney, PA, Madeline was a resident of Clifton for 54 years. Prior to retiring, she had been employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Philip’s Church in where she was also a member of the Rosary Society.
CANAVAN, Cira (nee Zizzo), 83, passed away on August 22, 2011. Cira was raised in Ridgefield Park before moving to Emerson where she lived for 25 years. She lived in Raleigh, NC for ten years before moving to Clifton in 1994. Cira was a parishioner of St. Philip and the mother-in-law of Edvie Canavan.
PENNELLA, Mildred (nee Saletta), 82, of Clifton on July 30, 2011. She was born in Newark and lived in Clifton since 1957. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton. She was the “ROCK” of the family and will be sadly missed. Mildred was the beloved mother of Addy Olsen and Elaine Gleason.
FAVA, Gertrude (nee Steidl), 91, died on July 16, 2011. Born in Chicopee, MA, Mrs. Fava lived in Clifton for over seventy years. Trudy attended Pratt Institute and was employed at the New York Infirmary in New York City as Assistant Dietician. She was a parishioner of St. Philip’s Church in Clifton where she was a member of the PrimeTimers and the Rosary Society.
ALBRIGHT, Ann M., passed away on April 19, 2011. Born and raised in Passaic, Ann lived in Clifton for most of her adult life. She had been employed in the Human Resources Department of CNA Insurance Co. in Parsippany. Ann was a parishioner of St. Philip’s where she had been an active volunteer at the School. She is the beloved mother of Megan and Erin Albright, who volunteer at the Rosary Society’s Annual Communion Breakfast.
DEPTULA, Grace J., died on April 14, 2011. Grace was born in Newark and resided in Clifton, N.J., for 50 years before moving to Cedar Crest Village, Pompton Plains. Before her retirement, she was employed as an executive secretary with Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., Nutley, N.J., for 25 years. She was a member of the Prime Timers and the Rosary Society.
KENNY, Helen, 85, died on April 8, 2011 at her home in Clifton. Helen was an active and involved parishioner of St. Philip R.C. Church on Valley Road. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Rosary Society.
BIRMINGHAM, Meg Crocker, died on February 7, 2011. Meg was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena in Wilmington, Delaware where she was a member of the Mom’s Monday Night Rosary Group. She was a gifted artist and used her abilities in youth ministry for many years. She is the beloved sister of Elizabeth Crocker.
QUINN Edith H. (Ranges), 93 of Clifton on January 5, 2011. Mrs. Quinn worked for Bendix Corporation for 25 years before retiring in 1980. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton. She was the beloved mother of Jackie Quinn.
FLANAGAN, Phyllis, died on January 2, 2011. Phyllis lived in Ireland and leaves behind two brothers and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis is the beloved sister of Msgr. Kevin Flanagan.
WILSON Elizabeth M. (nee Bonkoski), of Toms River, passed away Tuesday, November 9th, 2010. Born and raised in Orange, she lived most of her life in Clifton, before moving to Toms River over four years ago. She was a communicant of St. Philip’s and a member of the Rosary Society.
KIPIKASHA, Eleanor M. (Gerrity), died on October 15, 2010. Mrs. Kipikasha resided in Clifton for over 60 years. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle in Clifton where she was a member of the Rosary Society, the Prime Timers and the bowling league. Mrs. Kipikasha also volunteered at St. Philip’s as a Bingo worker and for the Bazaar.
MULLINS, Grace T. (Krejci) died on September 28, 2010. Born in Newark, Grace lived in Irvington before moving to Clifton. She was a Supervisor for NJ Bell in Newark for 15 years, retiring many years ago. Ms. Mullins was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton and a member of the Legion of Mary and the Rosary Society.
| POTTER, Joan A. (nee Moss), died on September 16, 2010. Born in Passaic, Mrs. Potter was a Clifton resident for most of her life. She held several administrative positions in the Clifton area over the years. Mrs. Potter was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She loved tending to her rose garden and spending time with her family and friends. |
BARTLETT, Irene Sophie, 88, of Clifton died on August 27, 2010. Mrs. Bartlett was born and raised in Bloomfield, NJ. She and her late husband, Harry, ran a family business, Bartlett’s Greenhouses and Florist, in Clifton until his death in 1987. She then maintained an active role in the business until her death. Mrs. Bartlett was a parishioner of St. Philip’s and was a generous benefactor of the Rosary Society.
BELLI, Mary Lou, died August 23, 2010. Ms. Belli was a retired executive secretary for American Cyanamid. She was born in St. Louis, MO, lived in New York State, and then moved to Clifton, NJ, where she lived from 1935 until her retirement in 1984 to Merritt Island. Mary Lou was a past-president of the Rosary Society.
KLOS, Evelyn M. (Heinrich), 81 of Clifton passed away on August 22, 2010 at Waterview Center in Cedar Grove. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to Clifton in 1949. Marilyn started as a substitute secretary in the Clifton School system, becoming a permanent secretary for 23 years in accounts payable before retiring in 1991. She is a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Clifton and was a member, former secretary, vice president and president of the Rosary Society.
BARCHEFSKI, Pauline (nee Witkowski), 84, of Clifton, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2010. Mrs. Barchefski lived in Clifton for 61 years. Before her retirement, Mrs. Barchefski was employed as the manager of the Dairy Queen formerly located on Route 46 East in Little Falls. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Clifton where she was a member of the Rosary Society and the Prime Timers.
LOWRY, Mary B., 86, of Clifton passed away on July 14, 2010. Born and raised in Belfast, Ireland, Mrs. Lowry came to the United States in 1944. Prior to retiring she had been employed with McHenry Pharmacy. She was a parishioner of St. Philip’s where she had also been a member of the Rosary Society.
D’ETTORE, Marian (nee Avato), 87, died Sunday, May 16, 2010. Born in Paterson, NJ on December 3, 1922, she resided in Clifton for 81 years. Before her retirement in 2004 she was the owner of Avato’s Department Store, a family run business and Clifton landmark for 74 years on Valley Road, Clifton. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church, Clifton where she had been a member of the Rosary Society and a founding member of St. Philip’s School PTA.
O’CONNELL Margot Crocker, 89, of Denville, on May 12, 2010. Born in Montclair, Margot lived most of her life in Morristown and Lavallette before moving to Denville three years ago. Margot retired from AT&T as a manager in the accounting department and graduated from Thomas Edison College with a Business Degree in 2001. She is the mother of Elizabeth Crocker
FLEMING Nellie (nee Flanagan), age 83 of Bergenfield formerly of Union City and born in County Roscommon, Ireland died Monday, May 10, 2010. She was a dedicated LPN having spent many years at Palisades General Hospital in North Bergen. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in Bergenfield. Nellie was the beloved sister of Monsignor Kevin Flanagan.
COTTONGIM – Ann M. (nee DeLitta), 93, of Clifton, died on April 30, 2010. Ann was born in Hoboken and lived in Lyndhurst for many years before moving to Clifton in 1954 where she resided for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Church, Clifton where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
RUSSO Genevieve A. (nee Mancini), 82, of Clifton, on May 2, 2010. Born in New York City, Mrs. Russo was raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA before returning to NYC where she graduated from Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing. She has lived in Clifton for the last 50 years. Mrs. Russo was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
COSTELLO, Marie Winberry, 91, passed away April 6, 2010. Marie was a longtime resident of Clifton, prior to moving to Williamsburg, VA. Marie received a bachelor of science degree in education from Fordham University in 1941 and worked in adoption at the Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn. Since 1956, she had been a member of St. Philip the Apostle Church, Clifton, where she was an active member of the PTA and the Rosary Society and founding president of the Prime Timers Club for seniors.
HAUSER, Mary Lou (Parent), of Clifton, died on January 22, 2010. Born in Maspeth, Long Island, New York, Mrs. Hauser had lived in Clifton for most of her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother and lived her life devoted to her family. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church in Clifton where she was also a member of the Rosary Society and the St. Philip School PTA.
FRINCO, Catherine M., of Clifton, died Nov. 5, 2009. Born in Garfield, Miss Frinco resided in Clifton for many years. Before her retirement, she was employed with the Shulton Corp. of Clifton. Miss Frinco was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton where she was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Padre Pio Prayer Group at Holy Face Monastery in Clifton.
DONNELLY – Marian T. (Condron), 92, of Clifton, died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at home. Mrs. Donnelly lived in Clifton since 1947. During World War II, she worked for Monroe Calculating Co. of Orange, Bates Manufacturing Co. of West Orange and B. Altman Co. in East Orange. From 1972 to 1982, Mrs. Donnelly was employed with Sears Co. at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne. Mrs. Donnelly was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Clifton where she was a member and Past President of the Rosary Society, member of the Prime Timers and a member of the Widow and Widowers Group.
PALLO, Mary T., 93 died October 9, 2009. Born in Passaic, Mary lived in Clifton most of her life before moving to Arizona 10 years ago. Mary was a Secretary for the Clifton Board of Assessors for several years, retiring many years ago. She was a member of both the Rosary Society and the Prime Timers.
RUSH, Helen C. (Newman), 92, of Clifton on September 29, 2009. Mrs. Rush was born in New York City and lived in North Arlington before moving to Clifton in 1950. She was a Registered Nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Orange for 12 years and a former Executive Director of the American Association of Industrial Nurses in New York City. Mrs. Rush was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church in Clifton and a member of the St. Philip’s Rosary Society.
SKARBEK, Marge (nee Pinkowsky), 83, of Clifton, died July 24, 2009. Born in Newark on March 6, 1926, Mrs. Skarbek lived in Clifton for most of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Clifton where she was a member of the Rosary Society and St. Philip’s Prime Timers. Mrs. Skarbek was also a member of AARP #878 and the Clifton Seniors. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Women’s Sewing Group for Cancer at St. Philip.
BAKKER, Ethel (Mrs. Either R. Konde Bakker), 89 of Clifton died on Monday, June 29, 2009. Born in Passaic, Mrs. Bakker lived in Clifton for more than 60 years. She was a secretary at Montclair State College, Montclair, before retiring. Also, she was a parishioner at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton, where she was a member of the Rosary Society, the Choir, and the Pastoral Society. She was the recording secretary for the Prime Timers at the church as well.
COSTELLO, Margaret (Mrs.Margaret (Torley) Costello), 86, of Clifton died on April 10, 2009. A Navy veteran of World War II, Margaret served with the WAVES from 1944 to 1946. Margaret was an English teacher at Paul VI in Clifton for 20 years, retiring in 1988. A parishioner of St. Philip’s, she was a member of the Rosary Society, past president of the PTA, a volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at Passaic General Hospital, and worked the election polls in Clifton for many years.
DUDIAK, Mary (nee Vasko), 89, of Clifton, died Saturday March 21, 2009. Born in Czechoslovakia, Mrs. Dudiak lived in Clifton for most of her life. Before her retirement, she was employed with Putnam Publishing Co. of Rutherford. Mrs. Dudiak was a parishioner of St. Philip’s Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society and the Prime Timers. She also had been a very active volunteer and fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.
NARDINO, Ann (Grazioso), 98, of Freehold, formerly of Clifton died on January 26, 2009. Born in Astoria, NY, Mrs. Nardino lived in Clifton (Record and Herald News 1/29/09)
